KELLY, KEITH A., CHARLES F. CODE, AND LILA R. ELVEBACK. Patterns uf canine gastric electrical activity. Am. J. Physiol. 2 17C2) : 46 l-470. 1969.~Eight electrodes were implanted serially from the fundus to the pylorus on the gastric wall of 12 dogs. After recovery, electrical activity was recorded during fasting and after gastric-balloon distention and gastric instillation of water and cottonseed oil, and correlated with intraluminal pressure and cinefluoroscopic observations. In fasting animals a regular, triphasic fluctuation in electrical potential, the pacesetter potential (PP), was detected by an orad corporal electrode and by all others caudad to it. Its amplitude was greater in the antrum than in the corpus, but its frequency (5.3 cycles/min) was the same in the two sites. Its velocity increased with caudad propagation. Action potentials (AP), indicating contractions, were superimposed on 26% of the fasting antral cycles. Balloon distention decreased PP frequency, slowed the velocity of corporal and enhanced the velocity of antral propagation, and increased the incidence of antral AP. Water instillation decreased PP frequency, slowed the velocity of corporal propagation, slowed or enhanced the velocity of antral propagation, and increased the incidence of antral AP. Oil instillation caused wide variations in PP frequency, slowed the velocity of corporal and antral propagation, and decreased the incidence of antral AP,

Effects of proximal gastric vagotomy (PGV) followed by total vagotomy (TV) on postprandial and fasting myoelectrical activity of the canine stomach and duodenum.
Experiments were designed to study the effect of proximal gastric vagotomy (PGV) followed by total vagotomy (TV) on the myoelectrical activity of the canine stomach and duodenum after a meat meal and during fasting. Dogs were prepared with chronically implanted Ag-AgCl-electrodes on the stomach and duodenum. Recordings of electrical activity were made for one hour after the ingestion of a meat ...
متن کاملWavelet analysis in a canine model of gastric electrical uncoupling.
Abnormal gastric motility function could be related to gastric electrical uncoupling, the lack of electrical, and respectively mechanical, synchronization in different regions of the stomach. Therefore, non-invasive detection of the onset of gastric electrical uncoupling can be important for diagnosing associated gastric motility disorders. The aim of this study is to provide a wavelet-based an...
متن کاملThe effect of gastric electrical stimulation on canine gastric slow waves.
This study determined the most efficient parameters of low-frequency/long-pulse gastric electrical stimulation (GES) required to entrain gastric slow waves and also evaluated the effect of entrainment and high-frequency, short-pulse GES on gastric electrical activity (GEA). Nine dogs were fitted with stimulation wires along the greater curvature. Entrainment was observed in six or seven animals...
متن کاملEffects of 13-nle-motilin on the electrical and mechanical activity of the isolated perfused canine stomach and duodenum.
Synthetic 13-norleucine-motilin (13-nle-motilin), structural and biological analogue of the naturally-occurring duodenal polypeptide, motilin, is known to stimulate antral and duodenal motor activity in vitro, but delays gastric emptying in man. In this study the direct actions of the synthetic polypeptide on myoelectrical activity and intraluminal pressure have been studied in the isolated vas...
متن کاملOrigin and propagation of the slow wave in the canine stomach: the outlines of a gastric conduction system.
Slow waves are known to originate orally in the stomach and to propagate toward the antrum, but the exact location of the pacemaker and the precise pattern of propagation have not yet been studied. Using assemblies of 240 extracellular electrodes, simultaneous recordings of electrical activity were made on the fundus, corpus, and antrum in open abdominal anesthetized dogs. The signals were anal...
